Brush Collection Resumes in January

With bulk leaf collection concluded, the maintenance department resumed the highly valued brush collection service January 2. Bring your brush piles to the curb!

Reviewing the brush guidelines can ensure the brush you set out is picked up and keeps our employees safe. Materials mixed in with brush can cause costly damage to the Village’s chipper.

Our brush route map lets residents know when we will be in their area. Crews utilize a daily route rotation and try to stay on schedule as much as possible to provide weekly curbside pick up for residents. We appreciate your effort work together with us to provide the most efficient service possible to the community.

Last Day of Leaf Collection: December 29

The Village’s curbside leaf collection service concludes on December 29. Residents are encouraged to get leaves to the curb in advance to allow crews to collect leaves prior to the close of the collection season. To ensure your leaves are picked up, the crews will make multiple routes through the Village during the final week of pickup to make every effort to collect your leaves. Leaves placed at the curb after December 29 may be bagged for pickup by Rumpke or integrated into backyard compost.

Send Your Holiday Packages to the Police Department

The Amberley Village Police Department would like to offer our residents peace of mind this holiday shopping season by having their packages delivered to the Police Department. Instances of burglaries increase around the holidays including theft of delivered packages from front porches. Residents can send packages to the Police Department by using the following shipping format for the ship-to address: Resident Name, c/o Amberley Village Police Department, 7149 Ridge Road, Cincinnati, OH 45237. Left Turn Arrow Installed

Capital Electric has installed the new 5-signal traffic light that will provide drivers with a left turn arrow going westbound on Ronald Reagan Highway. This is one of several improvements being made to help traffic flow in this high volume intersection. The project was approved by Village Council last month for a total cost of $12,209 and was recommended as a result of a re-timing study conducted earlier this year by TEC Engineering which was funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Leaf Collection: October 16 – December 29

The Village’s annual curbside leaf collection program began Monday, October 16. The Maintenance Department has been making regular routes throughout the Village to provide leaf collection to residents which will continue through December 29, 2017.

As the volume of leaves increases, the black and white advisory signs will be posted at the entrance to your neighborhood in advance of the crews, projecting the estimated day of collection in your area.

Crews will stay on schedule as much as possible. Weather, equipment, parking on the street, and debris mixed with leaves all affect the Village’s ability to collect leaves.

Tips When Raking Your Leaves:
• Please avoid placing leaves in the street to keep gutters and storm drains from clogging.
• Please avoid parking in front of leaf piles; crews are not able to pick up piles with access issues.
• Never place leaves around fire hydrants, mailboxes, sign posts, utility poles or guy wires.

Change the clocks and smoke alarm batteries

The Amberley Village Police Department encourages residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms at least twice a year – at the beginning and end of daylight savings time. Sunday, November 5th will mark the end of daylight savings time and while residents are changing their clocks, it’s a good time to change the batteries in smoke detectors. Smoke alarms save lives and can cut the risk of dying in a fire by half.

Smoke alarms, when properly installed and maintained, provide early warning when fire occurs. For the greatest protection, install a smoke detector on every level of your home and inside each sleeping area. Also, develop an escape plan and make sure every family member knows what to do if the smoke alarm does sound.

Test smoke alarms at least once each month to ensure that they are working properly. Vacuum the dust from inside the detector at least once every year. Batteries in battery-operated alarms should be changed twice a year or whenever a detector “chirps” to signal low battery power.

Drug Take Back Day 10/28

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. On Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Amberley Village Police and Fire Department along with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to give residents another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your pills for disposal to the Amberley Village Police-Fire Department, 7149 Ridge Road. Please adhere to the drop off times of 10 am-2 pm when staffing is available.

No liquids, needles or sharps accepted.
Free and anonymous service. No questions asked.

Electric Aggregation Program Renewed

The Village electric aggregation program with IGS Energy will conclude in October 2017. IGS Energy has presented an offer to extend the existing rate to guarantee residents a 7.3% savings. Village Council at its June 12, 2017 regular meeting approved to amend and extend the 2014 service agreement which conditions that the rate cannot exceed $0.0576 per kilowatt hour. It also includes a green power rate option that residents can choose that will be $0.002 higher per kilowatt hour.

The new electric aggregation rate is $0.0527 per kilowatt hour for a three year term from September 2017 through August 2020. The new rate is 8.5% lower than the current rate of $0.0576 and 14% lower than the current Duke Price-To-Compare of $0.0615.

Residents who are currently enrolled in the Village electric aggregation program with IGS Energy will receive a letter providing a 21-day window to choose to opt-out of the program. The opt-out letter will be sent to all eligible residents, including anyone who may have moved into the Village or any others taking Duke service. Duke Energy will then notify those same eligible customers to confirm their decision giving residents 7 days to opt out. Unless you are with an alternative electric supplier, you will become part of the Village electric aggregation program and begin saving money.

To receive the green power option, residents can contact IGS Energy after enrollment into the Village’s aggregation program and request green power for their account.

Due to the expiring contract, residents can expect to receive calls and mailers from competitor suppliers that would like your business. To stay with the Village’s program, simply do not respond to the phone calls or mailers and the Village negotiated rate savings will be passed on to you.
