Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off September 20 through November 15

Every Thursday from 1-7 p.m. starting September 20 until November 15, Hamilton County residents can drop-off household hazardous waste at Environmental Enterprises located at 4600 Spring Grove Avenue.

State Surplus: Write Your Letter

Amberley Village Council passed Resolution 2018-21 at its September 6, 2018 regular meeting urging the Ohio Governor and Members of the Ohio General Assembly to invest the state budget surplus in municipalities. The State recently proposed using the projected surplus of $147 million to fund an income tax withholding reduction and an additional $68 million to max out the state’s rainy day fund. The Village’s Resolution 2018-21 emphasizes that this revenue would be more useful if it was returned to local governments in light of the deep cuts from the state that communities experienced with revenue loss from the slashed Local Government Fund (LGF), elimination of the Estate Tax, and phased out the Tangible Personal Property Tax.

The Village encourages citizens to also urge the state to invest the surplus into local municipalities. A sample letter is being provided.

Open Board Member Seats: Human Rights Commission

Amberley Village is accepting applications for the newly created Human Rights Commission. Village residency required.

On April 9, 2018, Amberley Village Council passed Ordinance 2018-4, an Ordinance to Combat Discrimination and for the Guarantee of Equality and Inclusion. This ordinance establishes the creation of a Human Rights Commission, whose mission is to encourage and endeavor to bring about mutual understanding and respect among all persons, and to safeguard the right and opportunity of all persons to be free from all forms of discrimination. The Commission will be comprised of five members, each serving staggered 3-year terms, except for the initial appointments, which will be from 1-3 years each. The Village is seeking a balanced representation of our community, reflecting the diversity of Amberley Village.

2018 Road Program

Preparation work has begun on the Village streets targeted for improvement this summer. The contractor, Adelta Construction, is performing curb cutting work in advance of the updated start date for the street work which has been moved up to August 20, 2018.

The improvement program approved by Council in May consists of the total curb replacement, storm water repairs and repaving of the entire street on Matson Avenue, Gwenwyn Drive, Lansdowne Avenue, Gardner Avenue and a portion of Sagamore Drive. These are the concrete base streets that the Village Engineer determined are candidates for repaving rather than the total reconstruction. An additional $75,000 will be put toward approximately 2,600 additional feet of curb repairs on Elbrook Avenue. The street program will invest a total of $534,742.92 into our infrastructure this summer.

Residents will receive advance notification from Adleta Construction should access to their driveway be temporarily interrupted. Two-way traffic will be maintained. One lane closures are to be expected between construction working hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work is anticipated to conclude by September 21.

MKSK Study of Amberley Green

The Amberley Village Land Development Committee has received the study prepared by MKSK Landscape Architecture which evaluates planning and development scenarios for the Amberley Green property. MKSK was engaged by the Village in August 2017 to review conceptual plans from the JCC to develop 27 acres, including rehabilitation of the former clubhouse, for recreational use. The scope of work also included identifying alternative land use options. The Land Development Committee has directed Village staff to pursue grant opportunities to better identify potential linkages (pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle) and connectivity into Amberley Green. Celebrate Earth & Arbor Day with Us!

Each year the Environmental Stewardship Committee invites residents of Amberley Village to come together to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. On April 26th, the evening will begin at 6 p.m. on the brick plaza in front of the Amberley Village Municipal Building where a proclamation will be presented by Mayor Muething that expresses the commitment of our community toward the betterment of our environment. The activities will continue with a tree planting to take place at the upper walking track next to the municipal building. We hope you’ll join us!

One Stop Drop Recycling – April 8

On April 8th the Village will hold its 6th Annual One Stop Drop Recycling event in the parking lot of the Amberley Green from noon to 4:00 pm. A variety of vendors will be collecting recyclable items.

Cohen Recycling will accept a variety of electronics. As a general rule, if it plugs in or takes a battery, they can recycle it.
Royal Paper will provide confidential paper shredding. Paper must be clean and dry and have no binders, binder clips or metal stays.
Scrap It Up will collect a limited number of items. Due to limited storage space, they will only accept the following: craft paint, canvasses, crayons, chalk, pencils, markers, buttons, beads, wire and clear containers with lids.
Goodwill will be accepting clothing and small household items.

Last year the items collected diverted 20 tons from the landfill. The Environmental Stewardship Committee, which sponsors this event, hopes that residents and others will take advantage of the recycling options offered at the One Stop Drop.

How to Obtain a Zoning Permit

Thinking about plans for a new shed, deck, fence or home addition? Zoning approvals (permits) are needed before work begins for fences, sheds, new construction, additions, pools, and many other projects.

In order to receive a permit, the zoning approval letter must be signed by the property owner and a minimum of 4 sets of plans need to be submitted to the Village Administration office. Though initially the Zoning Code may seem overly strict, the zoning regulations were put in place to preserve the beauty and character of Amberley.

After a complete application is submitted, a permit can be issued if your modifications are within the Village Zoning Code. For large projects, you’ll need zoning approval from Amberley Village before you can go to Hamilton County for a building permit. The Village does not require a permit fee and turnaround time is typically 7 to 10 days, however, there are fees for the Hamilton County building permits.

Prescription Drop-off Available 24 Hours

Residents have dutifully participated in the popular Drug Take Back Day program hosted by the Amberley Village Police-Fire Department over the past two years which has been held in collaboration with the National Drug Take Back Days in April and October.

In 2017, a record number of drugs were collected nationwide showing that we are doing our part in reducing the amount of prescription medicines accessible in our homes that are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse. Building on the awareness of the opioid crisis, prescription drug abuse and its prevention, the Police-Fire Department has made it possible for residents to now drop-off unwanted prescriptions anytime throughout the year, 24-hours a day.

Simply bring your pills or patches for disposal to the Amberley Village Police-Fire Department, 7149 Ridge Road. Bring your prescriptions for drop-off in a plastic zip-lock baggie. No liquids, creams, empty containers, needles or sharps accepted. This is a free and anonymous service. No questions asked.
