11/21/19 – Power Siting Board Approves Construction of Duke Energy Pipeline

COLUMBUS, OHIO (November 21, 2019) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) today authorized Duke Energy Ohio, Inc. (Duke Energy) to construct the C314V Central Corridor Pipeline Extension Project along the utility’s revised alternate route in Hamilton County. The project is a component of Duke Energy’s plan to retire propane-air plants, balance natural gas supply within its pipeline system, and replace aging infrastructure.

Duke Energy will construct the approximately 13-mile long, 20-inch diameter natural gas pipeline between the Highpoint Park Station near the intersection of Butler, Warren, and Hamilton counties and the existing Norwood Station. The pipeline route will pass through communities including Amberley Village, Blue Ash, Cincinnati, Evendale, Golf Manor, Reading, and Sharonville.

In today’s decision, the OPSB outlined 41 conditions that Duke Energy will be required to comply with during the construction and operation of the pipeline. Among these conditions, Duke Energy must notify and schedule consultations with all affected local jurisdictions prior to the start of construction. Duke Energy will construct the pipeline in accordance with transmission line standards, rather than less stringent distribution line standards, and must meet or exceed the requirements of all applicable pipeline safety regulations. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio monitors the construction and operation of natural gas pipelines in Ohio, enforcing state and federal regulations and conducting routine inspections and audits once pipelines are placed in service.

Additional information about today’s OPSB decisions, including the Opinion, Order, and Certificate issued for the Duke Energy pipeline in case number 16-253-GA-BTX and a map of the approved pipeline route are available at www.OPSB.ohio.gov.
